Koshun Matcha Green Tea

An exquisite and rare selection from Tenryu, Shizuoka. We love featuring Koshun for its herbal and fruity aroma and playfulness on the palate. Our particular Koshun matcha is grown at a high altitude of 600m above sea level (testing the limits of where tea can be produced), resulting in a rich, deep flavor.

Our producer notes that the pique of the tea pairs deliciously with a touch of milk, making a luxurious latte.

The tea garden is located at the upstream of the Tenryu River in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Tencha is grown here at an altitude of nearly 600m above sea level at the foot of the Southern Alps, close to the limit of tea production altitude.
When tea is grown at high altitude, it produces high quality tea leaves with good colour and flavour.
This is because the higher the altitude, the greater the difference between cold and hot temperatures.
The tea leaves are carefully cultivated at the highest altitude in Japan and the cultivation methods used result in the highest quality Tencha.

Cultivar: Koshun
"Koshun" in chinese character is 香駿 which means "aroma" and "Shizuoka", and that would be the simplest and most concise explanation for this cultivar.
This cultivar was bred with the mixture of Kurasawa and Kanayamidori at the Shizuoka region and is characterised by its herbal and fruity aroma.
Aroma is enhanced even when served with water.
Attractive with a slightly sweet aftertaste.
