Organic Benifuki Wakoucha

$ 17.00
Size50g

Benifuki (Benifūki) has long held a devoted, niche following among tea and health enthusiasts alike. The cultivar is highly regarded for its naturally high catechin content, but we love it for its unctuous, jammy plum aromas and super-smooth, satisfying brew. Our first-flush selection is a true prize in Japanese black teas.

Aroma: jammy plum, warm cinnamon baking spice

Flavor profile: silky smooth, layered, sweet fruity complexity.

Organic Benifuki Wakoucha

$ 17.00

About the Cultivar:

Benifuki was created in 1965 in Makurazaki, Kagoshima, by crossing Benihomare (an assamica variety common in India and Sri Lanka) with MakuraCd86 (a sinensis variety originating from Darjeeling). After years of careful selection, the seedling was officially registered in 1993. As a blend of assamica and sinensis, Benifuki embodies a unique hybrid character.

What Makes Benifuki Popular:

What makes Benifuki especially intriguing is its high content of O-methylated catechins, a rare type of antioxidant studied in Japan. Research has explored potential connections between these compounds and support for seasonal allergy comfort, circulation, and overall wellness. While findings are still developing, Benifuki continues to attract interest among tea drinkers and researchers alike for its unique composition.
