The Word "Matcha" Added to Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Though the tea itself may be shy of 1,000 years old, according to Merriam-Webster, the first known use of the word "matcha" wasn't until 1881. Keep going until Sept. 17th, 2019, when the famed word authority finally added the word "matcha" to its lauded dictionary pages! While matcha has been part of our everyday vocabulary for years and years, we do appreciate the cultural recognition English speakers are now giving one of tea's greatest treasures.
We're certainly celebrating M-W's new addition with a nice chawan of pure, Japanese matcha green tea!
