Our beautiful dark wood chasens are made from wild purple bamboo. Artisans look for a hard, thin stalk, usually about 2-2.5 centimeters thick and 9-12 cm long. The bamboo must be dried for over a year, and only then do artisans transform the natural material into the fine tines — each by hand.

Get it for the perfect microfoam
"I wanted this Chasen because it had thin tines which are perfect for making Microfoam. And it did not disappoint; I went from making foam to making perfect microfoam. The key for microfoam is after you have mixed with the chasen touching the bottom of the bowl, to lift it up and only mix the top layer of your matcha, this will break up the larger bubbles and leave you with microfoam. The dark color of this Chasen also makes it look more elegant than other chasens. It has held up well for the past few weeks, I was initially worried that the thin tines would be more delicate and break easier, but with proper soaking before using it has not had a single breakage. Definitely a great Chasen for those looking for elegance or easy microfoam."

"This is the first chasen I've bought that wasn't really cheap and so far, I love the way it feels, and It's holding up really well with proper care. I really like how the tines come already open and I feel like the shape of the whisk makes it easier for me to get a smooth, frothed, and creamy usicha in less time than I'm used to with my old whisks. I'd definitely repurchase and recommend this chasen!"

"Very high quality chasen. The only issue is I didn’t expect it to have a Mizuba logo etched on it. I was hoping to use it for chanoyu, but it wouldn’t be appropriate with a brand logo. I don’t believe the photos show a logo."
