Organic Japanese Genmaicha loose leaf tea on a white plate

Organic Genmaicha Yamabuki

47.00 NIS
Size50g

A variation of our beloved organic genmaichathis offering from Uji is blended with a specially selected first-harvest Sencha that makes for a smooth and refined cup. The rice, a sweet mochi selection from Hokkaido, was picked for its exquisite depth. The toasty nuttiness of the perfectly roasted rice paired with the floral umami of this sencha is an afternoon treat not to be missed.

Aroma: nori, heirloom popcorn, nuts.

Flavor profile: silky mouthfeel. Slightly floral sweetness with mellow tones of chamomile and melon buoyed by umami. Medium body.

What is Genmaicha?

Genmaicha is a blend of loose-leaf tea, usually bancha (but in this case, a sepcial sencha!), with "genmai." Genmai is commonly brown rice, but Mizuba's genmaicha is made by roasting white mochi rice, which is crunchier and sweeter than regular rice.

The rice provides a satisfyingly sweet, nutty taste, which is balanced by the light green tea. Many say the aroma is reminiscent of popcorn! Originally enjoyed in rural areas, genmaicha's complementary flavors became exceptionally popular and it is now one of the most common Japanese teas.

Though accessible to all palates, our genmaicha is anything but pedestrian. Feel free to snack on the leftover rice!
