Our favorite household item has to be our tenugui
What looks like a simple cotton towel is truly so much more. In Japan, tenugui serve as your all-purpose solution for countless needs. Once you know what it is, you can't live without it!
Eco-friendly with an endless range of functionality, tenugui are not only great to clean up inadvertent matcha splashes or used as a hand towel, but these nifty cloths can become scarves, book covers, gift wrapping, thermos totes, tissue-box covers, headbands, bento box (lunch pail) wraps & totes... the possibilities are endless! You could imagine how excited we are to have our very own Mizuba matcha-themed tenugui.
Our tenugui are lovingly hand-illustrated and screen printed in small batches by artist Dan Clinton.
How to take care of your tenugui:
However you choose to use your tenugui, take care of it, and it will take care of you. The more it ages, the more beautiful it will become.
The fabric is intentionally designed to have frayed edges. This allows the tenugui to dry more quickly, and be more hygienic. The frayed edges make it ideal to use as an everyday cloth or handkerchief. The more you use and wash the tenugui, the less it will fray.
For best results, hand-wash with like colors and hang-dry. Do not bleach. Warm-iron if desired.
